Introduction
This statement is made pursuant to section 54(1) of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and constitutes Save the Children's slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending December 31, 2024.
Our Organization
Save the Children is the world's leading independent organization for children. We work in over 120 countries, helping children survive and thrive. Our mission is to ensure every child has the right to survival, protection, development, and participation.
Our Commitment
We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking are not taking place anywhere in our supply chains or in any part of our business.
Our Supply Chains
Our supply chains include the procurement of goods and services necessary for our humanitarian and development programs, as well as operational supplies for our offices worldwide. This includes:
- Program supplies (educational materials, medical supplies, nutrition products)
- Emergency relief items
- Office equipment and supplies
- IT services and equipment
- Professional services
- Facilities management
Our Policies
We have implemented the following policies to identify and prevent modern slavery:
- Code of Conduct: Sets out our commitment to ethical behavior and human rights
- Supplier Code of Conduct: Requires suppliers to adhere to high ethical standards
- Procurement Policy: Includes due diligence procedures for supplier selection
- Whistleblowing Policy: Enables staff and suppliers to report concerns confidentially
- Child Safeguarding Policy: Protects children from all forms of exploitation
Due Diligence Processes
We conduct due diligence on our suppliers through:
- Risk assessment of suppliers based on country, sector, and nature of goods/services
- Supplier questionnaires and self-assessment tools
- Contractual requirements for compliance with modern slavery legislation
- Supplier audits and site visits for high-risk suppliers
- Regular monitoring and review of supplier performance
Risk Assessment
We have identified the following areas as potentially higher risk for modern slavery:
- Suppliers in countries with weak labor law enforcement
- Labor-intensive industries (textiles, agriculture, construction)
- Use of temporary or agency workers
- Complex supply chains with multiple tiers
Training and Awareness
We provide training to relevant staff on:
- Recognizing signs of modern slavery and human trafficking
- Due diligence procedures in procurement
- Reporting mechanisms and whistleblowing procedures
- Ethical sourcing and supplier management
Measuring Effectiveness
We measure the effectiveness of our efforts through:
