Our History
Save the Children was founded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb, a British social reformer who was determined to improve the lives of children through education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in times of crisis.
Eglantyne Jebb drafted the first Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which was adopted by the League of Nations in 1924. This groundbreaking document laid the foundation for the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted in 1989.
Today, we are the world's leading independent organization for children. Over the past century, we have pioneered innovative approaches to child welfare, responded to countless emergencies, and helped transform the lives of over 1 billion children.
